How to use the time zone converter

This time zone converter takes one moment, a date and a clock time in the city you choose, and shows what the clocks say everywhere else on your list. It uses the time zone rules built into your browser, so daylight saving is applied for the exact date you pick rather than for today.

    1. Type a city, a country or an abbreviation such as EST, PST, GMT or IST in Change city or time zone. That city becomes the one you convert from.
    2. Set the date and time, or press Now to follow the live clock.
    3. Add the other cities. Use the arrows to reorder them and ⇄ to convert from a different city instead.
    4. Copy the one-line summary, copy a link that reopens the same view, or download an .ics file for your calendar.

Your city list and clock format are remembered on this device. Nothing is sent anywhere.

WIB to EST, PST to IST and other common conversions

Most searches are for the same handful of pairs, and most wrong answers come from ignoring daylight saving. A few worked examples:

    Time differences between big cities

The first column is the gap from late March to late October, when the US and Europe are on summer time. The second is November to early March. Sydney runs the other way, because its summer is our winter.

    CitiesNorthern summerNorthern winter
    New York → London+5 h+5 h
    New York → Los Angeles−3 h−3 h
    New York → New Delhi+9 h 30+10 h 30
    Los Angeles → New Delhi+12 h 30+13 h 30
    New York → Jakarta+11 h+12 h
    New York → Tokyo+13 h+14 h
    London → New Delhi+4 h 30+5 h 30
    London → Dubai+3 h+4 h
    London → Singapore+7 h+8 h
    London → Tokyo+8 h+9 h
    London → Sydney+9 h+11 h

Read "New York → Tokyo +13 h" as: add 13 hours to the New York time. Noon on a July Tuesday in New York is 1:00 AM Wednesday in Tokyo, which the converter marks with "+1 day".

Why the gap changes during the year

Daylight saving time moves clocks forward one hour in spring and back in autumn, but countries do it on different dates and many skip it entirely. In 2026:

Those mismatched dates cause the classic mistake. Between 25 October and 1 November 2026 London has already gone back but New York has not, so the gap is 4 hours instead of 5. A weekly 10:00 AM New York call lands at 2:00 PM in London that week, not 3:00 PM. The converter gets this right because it works from the date, and each row warns you when that city's next clock change is coming up.

One habit worth dropping: writing "EST" in a summer invite. EST is strictly UTC−5. In July the East Coast is on EDT, so "ET" is the safer label.

local time = UTC + offset
    difference = offset(city B) − offset(city A)
    Jakarta UTC+7, New York UTC−4 (EDT) → 7 − (−4) = 11 h

How to find a meeting time across time zones

The meeting planner lines up 24 hours for every city in your list. Each column is the same instant, so you can read straight down it. Green cells fall inside working hours (9:00 to 17:00 by default, change it on the left), yellow cells are early morning or evening, and grey is night. A green bar over a column means everyone is at work.

Click a column, or drag across them with a mouse, to set that hour. On a phone, swipe sideways to scroll and tap to select.

Some combinations have no shared working hour. New York, London and Jakarta is a common one. The least painful slot in summer is usually 8:00 AM in New York, which is 1:00 PM in London and 7:00 PM in Jakarta. If the call repeats, rotate who gets the bad hour rather than always asking the same office to stay late.

    Half-hour and 45-minute time zones

Not every zone is a whole number of hours from UTC. India is UTC+5:30, Nepal UTC+5:45, Adelaide UTC+9:30 (UTC+10:30 in its summer) and Newfoundland UTC−3:30. The planner shows those cells with minutes, for example 14:30, so a 9:00 start in London lines up with 13:30 or 14:30 in Mumbai depending on the season.

    Frequently asked questions

What is 9 AM EST in IST?

9:00 AM EST is 7:30 PM IST the same day, because India is 10 hours 30 minutes ahead of US Eastern Standard Time. From mid-March to early November New York is on EDT, and the gap shrinks to 9 hours 30 minutes, so 9 AM EDT is 6:30 PM IST.

How many hours ahead is IST from PST?

India (IST, UTC+5:30) is 13 hours 30 minutes ahead of Pacific Standard Time (UTC−8). While California is on daylight time (PDT, UTC−7) the difference is 12 hours 30 minutes, so 8 AM in Los Angeles is 8:30 PM in Bangalore.

What is the time difference between Jakarta and London?

Jakarta is 7 hours ahead of London in winter and 6 hours ahead from late March to late October, when the UK is on British Summer Time. Indonesia does not change its clocks, so the gap only moves when the UK does.

Is EST the same as ET?

No. EST is UTC−5 and only applies in winter; in summer the US East Coast uses EDT (UTC−4). ET or Eastern Time means whichever one is in force on that date, which is what this converter uses when you pick New York.

When do the clocks change in the US and Europe?

The US moves its clocks on the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November (8 March and 1 November in 2026). The EU and UK change on the last Sunday in March and October (29 March and 25 October in 2026), so for a few weeks a year the transatlantic gap is one hour smaller than usual.

How do I find a meeting time that works across time zones?

Add every participant's city, then look at the meeting planner: columns with a green bar are hours when all of them are between 9:00 and 17:00 local time. New York and London overlap for about 3 hours (9 AM to noon in New York), while New York and Jakarta usually have no overlap at all.

Does this time zone converter handle daylight saving time?

Yes. Offsets come from your browser's time zone database, the same one your phone uses, so a date in July and a date in December give different results for London or New York. Each row also warns you when the next clock change is within 120 days.

What time is it in Tokyo now?

Tokyo is on Japan Standard Time, UTC+9, all year, because Japan has no daylight saving. That makes it 13 hours ahead of New York in summer and 14 hours ahead in winter; press Now and add Tokyo to see the live time.
