How to use the Hijri calendar converter
This Hijri calendar converter turns a Gregorian date into the Islamic (Hijri) date and back, and it opens on today's date so you can see today's Hijri date straight away. Below the result you get the full Hijri month as a calendar, a list of the year's Islamic holidays and the Javanese weton for the same day.
- Choose Gregorian to Hijri or Hijri to Gregorian and enter the date.
- Pick a calendar method. Umm al-Qura is the default here, and the civil (tabular) calendar is the alternative.
- If your country announced the month a day earlier or later, press -1 or +1 under Day adjustment.
- Tap any day in the month view to convert it, or change the year in the holiday table.
How do you convert a Gregorian date to Hijri?
The Hijri calendar counts 12 lunar months, so its year is about 354 days, roughly 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year. A quick estimate works like this:
2026: (2026 - 622) x 33 / 32 = 1,448
That gets you the year, give or take one. The month and day need real calendar rules, which is what the converter applies. As a check, 11 October 2026 is 30 Rabi al-thani 1448 AH in Umm al-Qura. Going the other way, 1 Ramadan 1447 AH is Wednesday 18 February 2026.
Why can the Hijri date differ by a day or two?
There are three different ways to decide when a month begins, and they do not always agree.
- Umm al-Qura is a calendar computed from astronomy and used officially in Saudi Arabia. Good for planning, but it follows Saudi rules, not yours.
- Civil (tabular) uses a repeating cycle: 30 and 29 day months in a fixed pattern with 11 leap years in every 30. It is predictable and can drift from the real moon by a day or two.
- Local moon sighting or national decision is how many countries, including Indonesia, set Ramadan, Shawwal and Dhu al-Hijjah. This cannot be calculated years ahead, which is why the converter offers a -1 and +1 adjustment.
The two calculated methods differ today: 11 October 2026 is 30 Rabi al-thani in Umm al-Qura and 28 Rabi al-thani in the civil calendar. For anything religious that matters, such as the first day of fasting, wait for your local announcement.

Use the year box in the tool to list any year from 1900 to 2100, then copy the table, download it as CSV or add the dates to your calendar with the .ics file.
Why does Ramadan move every year?
Twelve lunar months add up to 354 or 355 days. Ramadan starts about 11 days earlier on the Gregorian calendar each year: 18 February 2026, around 8 February 2027, then late January 2028. After roughly 33 years it has gone all the way around the seasons.
What is weton, and how do you calculate it?
Weton is the Javanese way of naming a day by combining the 7-day week with the 5-day pasaran cycle. Each name carries a neptu value, and the two add up to the weton's neptu. The same weton returns every 35 days (called selapan).
| Day | Neptu | Pasaran | Neptu |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunday | 5 | Legi | 5 |
| Monday | 4 | Pahing | 9 |
| Tuesday | 3 | Pon | 7 |
| Wednesday | 7 | Wage | 4 |
| Thursday | 8 | Kliwon | 8 |
| Friday | 6 | ||
| Saturday | 9 |
The tool anchors the cycle on 1 January 1900, a Monday Pahing, and gets 17 August 1945 right: Friday Legi, neptu 6 + 5 = 11. Weton is a cultural tradition used for naming days and picking dates, with no scientific basis, and interpretations vary between families and regions.
What is my age in Hijri years?
Because a Hijri year is shorter, your Hijri age is higher. Someone born on 15 June 1990 is 36 in Gregorian years on 11 October 2026, but 37 years, 5 months and 9 days old by the Umm al-Qura calendar. The age box at the bottom of the tool gives your number and the date of your next Hijri birthday.
Frequently asked questions
What is today's date in the Hijri calendar?
Open the converter and it starts on today's date. For example, 11 October 2026 is 30 Rabi al-thani 1448 AH in the Umm al-Qura calendar and 28 Rabi al-thani 1448 AH in the civil calendar.
How do I convert a Gregorian date to Hijri?
Pick the Gregorian date and read the Hijri date from the result. A manual shortcut is Hijri year = (Gregorian year - 622) x 33 / 32, which is only accurate to within a year. For exact days use the converter.
Why is the Hijri date different from my local calendar by one day?
Calculated calendars follow fixed rules, while many countries start a month after the new moon is sighted or officially announced. Use the -1 or +1 adjustment to match your local announcement.
What is the difference between Umm al-Qura and the civil Hijri calendar?
Umm al-Qura uses astronomical rules set by Saudi Arabia, the civil (tabular) calendar uses a repeating 30-year cycle. On 11 October 2026 they differ by two days (30 and 28 Rabi al-thani), and on most days they agree or differ by one.
When is Eid al-Fitr in 2026?
Calculated from the Hijri calendar, 1 Shawwal 1447 falls on Friday 20 March 2026 in both methods. The official date depends on the moon sighting in your country and can be a day later.
How many days are in a Hijri year?
A Hijri year has 354 or 355 days (12 months of 29 or 30 days), about 11 days shorter than a Gregorian year. That is why Ramadan moves earlier through the seasons, roughly 11 days each year.
What is weton and how is it calculated?
Weton is the Javanese combination of weekday and pasaran (Legi, Pahing, Pon, Wage, Kliwon). 17 August 1945 was Friday Legi, with neptu 6 + 5 = 11. The same weton returns every 35 days.
How old am I in Hijri years?
Hijri age is counted in lunar years of about 354 days, so it runs ahead of your Gregorian age. Someone born on 15 June 1990 is 36 in Gregorian years on 11 October 2026, but 37 years and 5 months in Hijri years (Umm al-Qura).
