How to use the salary calculator
This salary calculator converts pay between hourly, daily, weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, monthly, quarterly and yearly. Type one number, pick what it is paid per, and the table shows the rest. The default, $25 an hour at 40 hours a week, works out to $52,000 a year.
- Enter your pay and choose the period it belongs to. A job ad saying "$60,000 a year" goes in as 60000, Yearly.
- Set hours and days per week. Hours drive the hourly figure, days drive the daily one.
- Lower the paid weeks if some time off is unpaid. Contractors and many hourly workers only get paid for weeks they work.
- Add overtime hours and the multiplier, usually 1.5×, if you regularly work extra.
- Type a raise percentage to see the old and new pay side by side, then copy the table, download it as CSV or save a PDF.
The tool does not calculate tax. It shows gross pay, before income tax, Social Security, Medicare, retirement contributions or health premiums come out.
How much is $25 an hour a year?
$52,000. A full-time year is usually counted as 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours, so the quick rule is hourly rate × 2,080. If you want a rough mental shortcut, double the hourly rate and add three zeros: $25 becomes about $50,000. It undercounts slightly, which is no bad thing when you are budgeting.
| Hourly | Yearly (2,080 hrs) | Monthly |
|---|---|---|
| $15 | $31,200 | $2,600.00 |
| $20 | $41,600 | $3,466.67 |
| $25 | $52,000 | $4,333.33 |
| $30 | $62,400 | $5,200.00 |
Annual salary to hourly: common amounts
Going the other way, divide the salary by 2,080. These assume 40 hours a week and paid holidays:
| Salary | Hourly | Monthly | Bi-weekly check |
|---|---|---|---|
| $40,000 | $19.23 | $3,333.33 | $1,538.46 |
| $50,000 | $24.04 | $4,166.67 | $1,923.08 |
| $60,000 | $28.85 | $5,000.00 | $2,307.69 |
| $75,000 | $36.06 | $6,250.00 | $2,884.62 |
| $100,000 | $48.08 | $8,333.33 | $3,846.15 |
If a salaried job routinely runs 50 hours a week, change the hours field to 50. A $60,000 salary then works out to $23.08 an hour, which is worth knowing when you compare it with a $27 hourly role at 40 hours.
The formulas
Hourly = yearly ÷ (hours per week × paid weeks)
Daily = yearly ÷ (days per week × paid weeks)
Monthly = yearly ÷ 12, bi-weekly = yearly ÷ 26, semi-monthly = yearly ÷ 24
One detail trips people up: a month is not four weeks. It is 52 ÷ 12 = 4.33 weeks on average. Someone earning $1,000 a week makes $4,333 a month, not $4,000. Budgeting on four weeks hides about a month's pay every year.
Bi-weekly vs semi-monthly pay
Bi-weekly is every other Friday (or whichever day), so 26 paychecks a year. Two months each year have three paydays. Semi-monthly is fixed dates such as the 15th and the last day, 24 paychecks. On $52,000 a year a bi-weekly check is $2,000 and a semi-monthly check is $2,166.67. Neither pays more over the year; the money is just cut into different slices.
Unpaid time off
If you are paid by the hour and take two weeks off without pay, set paid weeks to 50. $25 an hour then gives $50,000 instead of $52,000. Hourly, daily and weekly figures stay the same because they describe a week you work; monthly and the longer periods are averaged across the whole year, so they drop.
Adding overtime
In the US, non-exempt employees generally earn 1.5× their regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek, but rules differ by state, country and contract, so use the multiplier your employer actually pays. With $25 an hour and 5 overtime hours a week, overtime pays $37.50 an hour and adds $9,750 a year, for a total of $61,750. The table then shows an average hourly figure across all 45 hours, $26.39, which is a fair number to compare with other offers.
What a raise is worth per paycheck
Enter the percentage and the table adds two columns: new pay and the difference for every period. A 5% raise on $52,000 is $2,600 a year, $216.67 a month or $100 per bi-weekly check. Seeing it per paycheck makes it easier to judge whether a job change for 8% beats staying for 3%.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert an hourly wage to an annual salary?
Multiply the hourly rate by hours per week and by 52. $25 an hour at 40 hours a week is 25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000 a year, or about $4,333 a month.
$50,000 a year is how much an hour?
About $24.04 an hour, assuming 40 hours a week for 52 weeks (2,080 hours). That is $4,166.67 a month or $1,923.08 every two weeks before tax.
How much is $20 an hour a year?
$41,600 a year at 40 hours a week with paid holidays. If you take two weeks off unpaid, it drops to $40,000.
What is the difference between bi-weekly and semi-monthly pay?
Bi-weekly means every two weeks, 26 paychecks a year. Semi-monthly means twice a month, 24 paychecks. On $52,000 a year that is $2,000 versus $2,166.67 per check.
How is overtime pay calculated?
Overtime is usually your hourly rate times 1.5 for each extra hour. At $25 an hour, 5 overtime hours a week add 5 × $37.50 = $187.50 a week, or $9,750 over 52 weeks.
Does this salary calculator take out taxes?
No. It converts gross pay between periods only. Federal and state tax, Social Security, Medicare, pension and benefit deductions all depend on where you live and your situation, so your take-home pay will be lower.
How much more is a 5% raise?
5% of your current pay. On $52,000 a year that is $2,600 more a year, or $216.67 a month. Enter 5 in the raise field to see it for every pay period.
