How to split a PDF

This split PDF tool cuts one PDF into smaller files, or pulls out only the pages you need, right in your browser. Pick a file, then choose one of five modes:

The right panel lists every file before anything is made, with its name and page range, so you can check the plan first. Press Split PDF and each file gets its own Download button. When there is more than one, Download all (.zip) packs them together.

Split a PDF into separate pages

Choose Each page. Every page becomes a PDF of its own, named with a padded page number so the files sort correctly in any folder: statement-p01.pdf, statement-p02.pdf, and -p001 once the document passes 99 pages. They arrive in a single ZIP, which saves you from clicking 40 download buttons.

If you only need some pages as separate files, use Extract pages instead and tick Save each page as a separate file. Typing 3, 8, 12 then gives three one-page PDFs.

Extract pages from a PDF

Extract pages builds one new PDF from the pages you pick and leaves your original file untouched. Type the pages or tap the thumbnails; both stay in sync. The range format is short:

Pages always come out in their original order. If you need to reorder them as well, split first and then rearrange the result with the Organize PDF tool.

How to save one page of a PDF

Type that page number into Extract pages, for example 6, and press Split PDF. You get contract-p06.pdf, a real one-page PDF with selectable text, not a screenshot. That matters when a form asks for "the signature page only" or when you want to send someone page 6 of a 40-page lease without the rest. If you need the page as a picture instead, the PDF to JPG tool does that.

Split a PDF every 2 pages

Every N pages is made for stacks of documents scanned in one go. A scanner feeder often turns 15 two-sided forms into a single 30-page PDF. Set N to 2 and you get 15 files, one per form. Set it to 1 and it behaves like Each page. When the page count does not divide evenly, the last file is simply shorter: 11 pages split every 3 gives 3, 3, 3 and 2.

For chapters of different lengths, Custom ranges is the better fit. Type 1-12, 13-30, 31- and the files are named after their ranges (book-1-12.pdf and so on). Ranges may overlap if, say, every part needs the same cover page: 1-5, 1, 6-9 works.

Remove pages from a PDF

Remove pages is the opposite of extract: you mark the pages to drop and get a copy without them. Marked pages are crossed out in red so you can see what will go. It is the quickest way to strip a blank last page, a cover sheet or a page with information you'd rather not share. You can't remove every page; at least one has to stay.

Quality, size and what stays the same

Pages are copied, not re-printed. Text stays selectable and searchable, images keep their original resolution, and each page keeps its own size and orientation, so a document that mixes A4, Letter and a landscape spreadsheet comes out exactly the same. Each part only carries the fonts and images its pages use, which is why a 10 MB report split in two usually gives two files that together are close to the original size.

A few things don't survive splitting: bookmarks and the outline, links that jump to pages in another part, and digital signatures (a signature covers the exact original file, so any copy shows it as changed). Filled form fields usually still display their values.

Encrypted PDFs

Files that are encrypted, either with an open password or with permission restrictions, can't be split here, and the tool says so instead of producing broken files. The fix takes a minute: open the PDF with its password in your PDF reader, choose Print, pick Save as PDF as the printer, and split the new copy. Everything else happens on your device. The PDF is read by the pdf-lib library inside this page and never uploaded.

Why can't I split my PDF?

It is usually encrypted. Open it with its password, print it to a new PDF (Print, then Save as PDF) and split that copy. Damaged downloads also fail; download the file again.

How do I delete pages from a PDF?

Choose Remove pages, type or tap the pages to drop (for example 1, 9-10) and press Split PDF. You get a copy of the document without those pages, named like file-edited.pdf.
