How to convert a PDF to JPG

This PDF to JPG converter turns each page of a PDF into an image file, and it does the work inside your browser. Four steps:

  1. Choose the PDF or drop it on the box. Thumbnails of every page appear after a second or two.
  2. Keep All pages, or switch to Choose pages and type a range such as 1-3, 5, 8-. Tapping a thumbnail adds or removes that page too.
  3. Pick JPG or PNG and a resolution. The Image size box shows the exact pixel size of the first selected page before you convert.
  4. Press Convert to JPG. Each page gets its own Download button, and Download all (.zip) packs them into one file.

Files are named after the PDF with the page number at the end, padded so they sort correctly: lease-p01.jpg, lease-p02.jpg and so on. A 150-page document gets -p001 instead.

PDF to JPG without uploading the file

Most converters send your PDF to a server, render it there and email or link the images back. Here the open source pdf.js engine (the same one Firefox uses to show PDFs) is downloaded once and runs on your device. The PDF is read from your disk, drawn page by page onto a canvas and saved as an image. Nothing leaves the browser tab, which is the point when the document is a bank statement, a payslip or a scan of a passport.

It also means there is no queue and no daily limit. Speed depends on your device: a laptop handles a 20-page report at 150 DPI in a few seconds, an older phone takes a bit longer.

Which DPI gives a high quality JPG?

DPI here means how many pixels are made for each inch of the page. PDF pages are measured in points (72 per inch), so 72 DPI gives one pixel per point, 150 DPI about twice as many in each direction, and 300 DPI about four times.

Page size72 DPI150 DPI300 DPI
A4595 × 8421240 × 17542480 × 3508
US Letter612 × 7921275 × 16502550 × 3300
US Legal612 × 10081275 × 21002550 × 4200
A5420 × 595874 × 12401748 × 2480

For most people 150 DPI is the right choice. Text is crisp on a laptop or phone, and a typical page lands between 100 and 600 KB as JPG. Go to 300 DPI when the image will be printed, when the PDF has small print such as a lease's footnotes, or when someone needs to zoom into a drawing. 72 DPI is only good for previews and thumbnails; body text gets fuzzy.

The Width option is handy when a site asks for a specific size. Type 1080 for an Instagram post or 1920 for a slide background and every page is scaled to that width, keeping its proportions.

PDF to PNG at 300 DPI, or JPG?

Pick by what is on the page, not by habit.

The JPG quality slider defaults to 90. Dropping to 75 usually cuts the file by a third and is hard to spot on screen. Below 60 you start to see blocky halos around text.

How to save one page of a PDF as an image

Switch to Choose pages, press Clear, then tap the page you want or type its number. Convert, and you get a single file with that page number in the name. This is quicker and sharper than taking a screenshot, because a screenshot is limited to your screen's pixels while the converter draws the page fresh at the resolution you picked.

Ranges work the way you would expect: 2-4 is pages 2, 3 and 4, 8- is page 8 to the end and -3 is the first three. Pages are always exported in page order.

Password protected and very large PDFs

If a PDF needs a password to open, a small box asks for it. The password is used on this page only to decrypt the file in memory. Without the password there is no way in, and this tool does not try to guess.

Long documents are handled one page at a time: a page is drawn, saved as an image and its canvas is freed before the next one starts, so a 300-page manual will not run your phone out of memory. A progress bar shows where it is, and Cancel stops after the current page while keeping the images already made. One limit is real: phones and tablets cap a single canvas at about 16.7 megapixels. A4 at 300 DPI (8.7 MP) is fine, but A2 posters at 300 DPI get scaled down slightly, and the page tells you when that happens.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a PDF to JPG without uploading it?

Drop the PDF on this page, pick the pages and press Convert to JPG. The pages are drawn by your own browser, so the file never leaves your phone or computer, and a 10-page PDF at 150 DPI usually takes a few seconds.

What DPI should I use to convert a PDF to JPG?

Use 150 DPI for screens, email and upload forms, and 300 DPI for printing or tiny text. An A4 page becomes 1240 × 1754 px at 150 DPI and 2480 × 3508 px at 300 DPI.

How do I convert just one page of a PDF to an image?

Choose pages, then type the page number (for example 4) or tap that page's thumbnail and convert. You get a single file named like report-p04.jpg.

Should I convert my PDF to JPG or PNG?

Pick JPG for scans and photos, PNG for pages that are mostly text, lines or charts. For plain text pages PNG is often no bigger: a dense A4 text page at 150 DPI came out at 491 KB as PNG and 536 KB as JPG at quality 90 in our test, and the PNG has cleaner letter edges.

Can I convert a password protected PDF to JPG?

Yes, if you know the password. The tool asks for it, opens the file on your device and converts it as usual. It cannot open a PDF whose password you do not have.

How do I download all PDF pages as images at once?

Press Download all (.zip) after converting. The ZIP holds one image per page in page order, named like contract-p01.jpg, contract-p02.jpg and so on.

Why does the text in my JPG look blurry?

The resolution was too low for the size you view it at. Convert again at 300 DPI or set a width such as 2500 px, and the text is redrawn from the PDF itself, so it comes out sharp.

Is there a page limit for converting PDF to JPG?

No. Pages are rendered one at a time and each canvas is freed before the next, so a 300-page PDF works too. On phones a single image is capped at about 16.7 megapixels, which still fits A4 at 300 DPI.
