    How to convert images

This image converter changes PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, BMP and SVG files into JPG, PNG or WebP, one file or a whole folder at a time, without uploading anything. The steps:

    1. Pick the output format. JPG is the safe default for photos and upload forms.
    2. For JPG and WebP, set the quality. 85% is a good balance; 92% when the image will be edited again.
    3. Add files with the button, by dropping them on the box, or by pasting a screenshot. Each file is converted as soon as it arrives and gets its own Download button.
    4. Press Download all (.zip) to save the batch as one file.

Changing a setting re-converts everything already in the list, so you can compare 75% and 92% without adding the files again. The pill next to each file shows the change in size: green means smaller, orange means larger.

How do I convert PNG to JPG?

Choose JPG and add the PNG. Two things happen. First, the file usually shrinks a lot: the built-in sample, a 1600 × 1067 px landscape saved as PNG, is 2.56 MB, and it comes out at about 350 KB as a JPG at 85% and 560 KB at 92%. Second, any transparency is filled, because JPG has no alpha channel. The background setting decides the colour. White suits documents and product photos; black or a brand colour may suit a logo better. Without a fill colour, browsers turn transparent pixels black, which is why PNG logos converted elsewhere sometimes come back with a black box.

Screenshots with text and flat colours are the exception. They are often smaller and crisper as PNG, so keep them as PNG unless a form insists on JPG.

How do I convert WebP to JPG?

Add the .webp file and keep JPG selected. WebP is what many websites, including Google Images, serve, so a "Save image as" often gives you a .webp that Word, older Photoshop versions or a job portal won’t accept. Converting at 85 to 92% gives a JPG that looks the same. The JPG will normally be somewhat larger than the WebP, which is expected: WebP compresses better, and that is the price of compatibility.

Can I convert JPG to PNG with a transparent background?

Converting cannot create transparency. A JPG never had any, so the PNG shows the same white or coloured background and is several times bigger. If you need a cut-out, remove the background first with a dedicated tool, then save as PNG or WebP. Convert JPG to PNG only when an editor or upload form specifically asks for PNG, or when you plan to edit the image repeatedly and want to stop JPG losses from adding up.

    Which format should I pick?

    FormatTransparencyBest forWatch out for
JPGNoPhotos, forms, email, printingBlurs sharp text and edges at low quality
PNGYesLogos, screenshots, icons, editingPhotos become very large
WebPYesWebsites and blogsSome older apps and forms refuse it
AVIFYesWebsites where every KB countsSlow to save; support still patchy outside browsers
GIFYes (1-bit)Simple animationsOnly 256 colours; converted using the first frame

WebP is not automatically smaller. On the noisy sample photo, WebP at 85% came out at about 540 KB against 350 KB for JPG at the same number, because the quality scales of the two formats are not the same. If size is what matters, compare the actual numbers in the list rather than trusting the format name.

The AVIF button only appears when your browser can save AVIF. Opening AVIF files works in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.

How do I convert an image to WebP for a website?

Pick WebP, set quality to 75 to 85%, and turn on Fit inside with a sensible maximum, such as 1920 px wide for a full-width hero image or 1200 px for an image inside an article. Resizing does more for page speed than the format: a 4000 px phone photo shown at 800 px wastes most of its bytes whatever the format. Use the file name pattern to get clean names, for example blog-{n} gives blog-01.webp, blog-02.webp and so on.

How do I convert AVIF or HEIC to JPG?

Add the files and keep JPG. AVIF files saved from websites are decoded by the browser itself. iPhone HEIC photos need a decoder that most browsers lack, so the page downloads one the first time you add a .heic file; after that it works offline.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I convert PNG to JPG without losing quality?

Choose JPG, set quality to 92% or higher and add your PNG. JPG always discards a little detail, but at 92% a photo looks the same while the file is often a fraction of the PNG size. Transparent parts are filled with the background colour you pick, white by default.

How do I convert WebP to JPG?

Add the .webp file, keep JPG selected and press Download. A WebP saved from a website usually converts in under a second, and the JPG opens in any app, email or upload form that rejected the WebP.

Can I convert JPG to PNG with a transparent background?

No. A JPG has no transparency to keep, so the PNG shows exactly the same background, just in a bigger file. To get a see-through background you need a background remover first; convert to PNG only when a form or editor insists on PNG.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Decoding and saving happen in your browser with the Canvas API. Only the HEIC decoder and the ZIP tool are downloaded, once, when you actually need them.

Why did my file get bigger after converting?

Usually because you converted a photo to PNG, or a small, already-compressed JPG to a high quality setting. A 300 KB JPG photo can become 2 MB as PNG. Pick JPG or WebP and a quality around 80% to shrink files.

Does converting remove EXIF and GPS location?

Yes, by default. The browser re-draws each image, so camera model, date and GPS are dropped. For JPG to JPG you can tick Keep EXIF to copy that data across; the orientation tag is reset so the photo is not rotated twice.

Can I convert AVIF or iPhone HEIC photos to JPG?

Yes. AVIF opens in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. HEIC works in every browser because the page loads a free decoder the first time you add a .heic file.

How many images can I convert at once?

There is no fixed limit. Files are converted one after another, so 50 phone photos are fine on a laptop. On an older phone, batches of 10 to 20 large photos are safer because each one is held in memory while it is drawn.
